Sean Swinwood moved to Fernie in 1998 to enjoy the fantastic outdoor lifestyle East Kootenay offers. After several years of working in construction and forestry, he decided it was time for a new challenge. Swinwood worked as a licensed realtor for 3 years in the area, and then moved to Cranbrook with his family. At this time, he became interested in Green Building practices and was intrigued by the openings needed to be filled in residential energy assessments. As interest in Green Building practices developed, Swinwood trained at Vancouver Island University as an energy advisor, and received his Built Green certificate. Two years later, he was hired by AmeriSpec of SEBC to perform energy audits in the East and West Kootenay’s.
“After a few years of performing energy audits for AmeriSpec, I was given the unexpected and welcome opportunity of taking over the business as owner/operator. I was very grateful for the chance and have worked hard to attain my Home Inspector’s License to perform home inspections in the province of BC. Based on my previous experience with construction and energy assessments, I strongly believe I can provide a unique perspective on any home’s potential concerns. The support of the AmeriSpec franchise is a huge resource, giving me a significant advantage over other companies. The pool of knowledge built up over years by the top home inspection service on the continent is available for me to access any time I need it. So, if I am ever unsure about anything in a house which does not look right, I can get a prompt consultation from highly trained technical advisors. I also keep in close contact with the local building inspectors to get updated on the latest building codes, and am also expanding my knowledge of home inspection on a continual basis by participating in the online courses available to me through CanNachi (Canadian national association of certified home inspectors). I take profound pleasure in traveling this gorgeous area and meeting homeowners to address their concerns on how to make their homes more energy efficient.”
